Από τον ελάχιστο διάκοσμο που διαθέτει (στο εξερευνημένο μέχρι σήμερα τμήμα της) η Τρύπα στη Μούντα του Καστελόριζου. Ο διάκοσμος στολίζει το παταράκι στα -17μ. \nThe cave "Trypa sti Mounta" has very little in the way of stal, at least in the section explored so far. The stal in the image decorates a small ledge at -17m.

Μέσα υπάρχει και σταλακτιτική κολόνα. Βρέθηκε πολύ κοντά στη Τρύπα στη Μούντα \nThere is a rather nice stal column inside this one, which was found very close to the Trypa sti Mounta cave.

Καθώς περιμένανε να βγούμε από την Τρύπα στη Μούντα, ο Κώστας με την Όλγα ανακάλυψαν μια είσοδο στα 200μ από την Τρύπα στη Μούντα. Είναι και αυτή μπαζωμένη, μάλλον από βοσκούς. Η είσοδος βρέθηκε ακολουθώντας τα βρύα (τα οποία φαίνονται και στην φωτογραφία). Πέτρα που πέφτει φεύγει για τουλάχιστον 20μ πριν βρει χώμα. \nAs they were waiting for us to exit the Trypa sti Mounta cave, Kostas and Olga discovered another entrance at 200m from Trypa sti Mounta. This one too is blocked, most probably by shepherds. The entrance was found by again following the moss (it is visible in the photograph). A dropped stone will fall about 20m before hitting soft earth.

Το δέκατο στίγμα που καταγράψαμε ανήκει σε αυτή τη τρύπα που βρέθηκε πάνω στο μονοπάτι γυρίζοντας από την Τρύπα στη Μούντα. Εντοπίστηκε από την Κορίννα :) και έχει βάθος τουλάχιστον 5-6 μέτρα (ρίξαμε πέτρα). Την έχουν κλείσει με πέτρες όπως και τις περισσότερες τρύπες του νησιού. \nThe tenth waypoint recorded belongs to this hole which was found beside the footpath on the way back from the Trypa sti Mounta. It was found by Korinna :) and is estimated to be 5-6m deep (we threw stones in). As with most of the holes on the island, this one had been closed off with rocks.

Το φουσκωτό δίνει ξεκάθαρη εικόνα του πόσο μικρή είναι πραγματικά η είσοδος. Λόγω της μικρής εισόδου, το φως του ήλιου αναγκάζεται να πάρει περίεργη πορεία μπαίνοντας στη σπηλιά, δίνοντας έτσι το γαλάζιο χρώμα στα πάντα που είναι μέσα. \nThe zodic dinghy gives a very clear picture of how small the entrance really is. On account of this small entrance, the sunlight is forced to enter the cave by a round about route and so bathe everything on the inside in this beautiful blue light.

Από την παρέα που πήγαμε το Σάββατο στη γαλάζια σπηλιά, μόνο ο Κώστας βούτηξε. Οι υπόλοιποι το μετανιώσαμε που δεν φέραμε μαγιό την στιγμή που είδαμε τα γαλάζια νερά μέσα. \nFrom the group who went to the Blue Cave on Saturday, only Kostas dived in. The rest of us were rightly upset that we had not brought our swimwear when we saw the blue waters inside. \n

Το σπήλαιο Κολόνες είναι σε έναν κολπίσκο στα νότια του νησιού. Έχει δύο εισόδους που δεν επικοινωνούν μεταξύ τους στο εσωτερικό... μάλλον. Η κάθε είσοδος δίνει περίπου σαράντα μέτρα πορείας στο εσωτερικό. \nThe cave Kolonnes is to be found in a little bay to the south of the island. It has two entrances which don't communicate with eachother internally... probably. Each entrance leads to a cave going about 40m into the rock.

Ρε πως ζει αυτό;; - έτσι αργά που πάει και ατσούμπαλα πως και δεν το τρώνε; μάλλον δεν υπάρχει κυνηγός στο νησί... αλλά δεν υπάρχουν και γάτες και άλλα; Κι' όμως, υπάρχουν αλλά η φίλενάδα μας η σαλαμάνδρα έχει δηλητήριο στο δέρμα της, κι' έτσι δεν τρέχει τίποτα. \nHow on earth does this survive?? it is so slow moving and clumsy it is a wonder how it doesn't get eaten. There are probably no predators on the island, although there are a few cats. Even so, our friend the salamander has a toxic skin, so it's no concern of hers if there are predators about.

Η Γιώτα χειρίστηκε το καλέμι αρχικά, σπάζοντας την πρώτη πέτρα με άνεση. \nAt first Yiota handled the chisel, easily breaking the first stone which blocked the entrance.

Το σαμιαμίδι βρέθηκε καθώς αφαιρούσαμε τις φερτές πέτρες από την είσοδο της Τρύπας στη Μούντα. Δεν ήθελε να φύγει μακριά από τον Κώστα, αλλά το έδιωξε τελικά να συνεχίσει με τη δουλειά. \nThe small lizard popped out while we were removing the stones blocking the entrance to the cave "Trypa sti Mounta". The little guy did not want to leave Kostas, who in the end had to send him away to carry on working.

Μετά από επίπονες προσπάθειες και τα προκαταρτικά (καθαρισμός εισόδου, κλπ) ο Κώστας τελικά ξεκινάει για το άγνωστο που κρύβεται κάτω από τη Μούντα. \nAfter much effort to open the entrance and the proper preparatory actions (gardening the entrance, etc.) Kostas commences his descent into the unknown hiding beneath Mounta.

Κάποια στιγμή ακούγεται ο Κώστας να ζητάει και σχοινί και υλικά. Η Γιώτα δύσκολα κρύβει την χαρά της καθώς ξεκινάει για να τον βοηθήσει στην εξερεύνηση. \nAt some point after entering the cave, Kostas cried out to us for more rope and more gear. Yiota has a hard time hiding her joy as she sets off to help him with the exploration.

Ήταν η πρώτη φορά που μπαίνει η Κέλλη (Σεμινάρια 2005) σε ανεξερεύνητο... το χαμόελο τα λέει όλα! \nIt was Kelly's (seminars 2005) first time entering an unexplored cave... the smile says it all.

Η Γιώτα βγαίνει από την Τρύπα στη Μούντα μετά την πρώτη μέρα εξερεύνησης. Υπάρχει ακόμα δουλεία να γίνει μέσα και χρειάζονται κι' άλλα υλικά... ραντεβού πάλι το πρωί. \nYiota exits the Tyrypa sta Mounta cave after the first day's exploration. There is still much work to be done inside and more gear is needed... a meeting is set for the next morning.

Η χαρτογράφηση στην Τρύπα στη Μούντα έγινε σχεδόν όλη στα σχοινιά επάνω. Εδώ είμαστε ακόμα στις αρχές. \nThe survey of the Trypa sti Mounta cave was carried out almost exclusively on rope. This photo is at the beginning of the survey.

Μια ομαδική φωτογραφία της ομάδας που εξερεύνησε και χαρτογράφησε το κάθετο σπήλαιο Τρύπα στη Μούντα. Η εξερεύνηση έπαψε στα -61μ λόγω ανάγκης να ξαρματώσουμε και να επιστρέψουμε στην Αθήνα. \nA group photo pf the team which explored and surveyed the vertical cave Trypa sti Mounta. The exploration stopped at -61m because we had to de-rig and return to Athens.

Το "Χάος στα Κιόλια" είχε μικρές διαστάσεις και λίγο διάκοσμο, αλλά η στενή είσοδος μας διασκέδασε αρκετά. Εδώ ο Κώστας μόλις πέρασε τη μυτούλα του βράχου κατεβαίνοντας. \nThe cave "Chaos sta Kiollia" was small with little stal, but the narrow entrance provided quite some fun. In this photo, Kostas has just passed the little nose on his way down.

Τη δεύτερη κάθετη σπηλιά στην οποία μας οδήγησε ο Κύκκος την αρμάτωσε η Γιώτα. Εδώ την κοιτάει ο Κώστας καθώς ξεκινάει η Γιώτα την εξερεύνηση. Η Τρύπα είχε μέγιστο βάθος -13μ και νεκρά παγιδευμένα ζώα σε όλα τα στάδια αποσύνθεσης. \nThe second cave to which we were led by Kykkos was rigged by Yiota. Here, kostas is watching as she begins her descent. The cave had a maximum depth of -13m and a selection of dead fauna at all stages of decomposition.

Για ελάχιστα λεπτά έγινε η μέρα νύχτα στο νησί - μοναδικό σημείο στη ζώνη του Σένγκεν που είδε ολική έκλειψη. Εδώ φαίνεται με άσπρο το "στεφάνι" (λατινικό corona) - η ατμόσφαιρα του ήλιου, η οποία δεν φαίνεται από τη γη παρά μόνο την ώρα της ολικής έκλειψης \nFor just a few minutes, day became night on the island (which was the only part of schengenland to witness the eclipse). Here we see in white the corona - the sun's atmosphere, which is visible from the earth only at the time of solar eclipse.

Οι σπηλαιολόγοι του ΣΕΛΑΣ με τον καλύτερο δυνατόν οδηγό για τα υψώματα του νησιού - τον καπετάνιο Κύκκο Μισομικέ. Πίσω από την ομάδα το οροπέδιο του Αϊ Γιώργη του βουνού, το οποίο δεν απέδωσε πολλά σε αυτή τη φάση. \nThe speleologists of SELAS together with the best possible guide to the uplands of the island - captain Kykkos Misomikes. Behind the team is the plateau of St. George of the Mountain, which did not reveal anything to us during this trip.

Η Γιώτα στέκεται πάνω από το σημείο απ' όπου λίγες ώρες αργότερα μπαινοβγαίναμε από το σπήλαιο. Διακρίνονται καθαρά και τα βρύα στα τοιχώματα \nYiota is standing on the spot where a few hours later we would be coming and going into the cave. The moss on the walls of the cave is visible in the picture.

Η τρύπα του Παραστά είναι γνωστό ενάλιο σπήλαιο του Καστελόριζου. Την πρώτη μέρα και με οδηγό τον ακούραστο Κύκκο Μισομικέ, βρεθήκαμε πάνω από την είσοδο του σπηλαίου. On the first day, with Kykkos Misomikes guiding us, we found ourselves above the entrance to the cave. In the photo, from left to right, we have: Thomas, Kostas Georgiadis, Kostas Iatrou, Kykkos, Georgia, Kelly, Olga and Yiota.

Το νησί διασχίζουν αρκετά μονοπάτια πολύ καλοφτιαγμένα από την εποχή που είχαν οι Γάλλοι το Καστελόριζο υπό την κατοχή τους. Τα περισσότερα έχουν να επισκευαστούν καμιά 80αριά χρόνια και χάνουν τη μάχη με την χλωρίδα, ενώ πολλά δεν ολοκληρώθηκαν ποτέ. Στο βάθος, το ανατολικότερο σημείο της Ελλάδας, η Ν. Στρόγγυλη. \nThe island is criss-crossed by a number of well-made footpaths dating to the time when the French held Kastelorizo. The great majority of them have not been repaired in some 80 years and are beginning to lose the battle against the flora, while many others were never completed. In the background you can make out the easternmost point of Greece, the Island Strongyli.

Γυρίζουμε σιγά σιγά μετά την πρώτη εξόρμηση στα υψώματα του νησιού, με οδηγό τον Κύκκο Μισομικέ. Στο βάθος η Μικρά Ασία. Ανάμεσά μας τα νησάκια. Δικά μας - δικά τους - μάλλον μόνο τα ψάρια ξέρουν σίγουρα. \nWe make our way back slowly after the first foray onto the islands highlands, with Kykkos Misomikes as our guide. In the distance, Asia Minor. Inbetween, the little islands. Ours - theirs - probably only the fish really know for sure.

Ο Κώστας αντιμέτωπος με την χλωρίδα. Χρειάστηκε "πιργιώνι" να φτάσουμε στην είσοδο του Χάους στα Κιόλια. Εδώ ο Κώστας πιργιωνίζει με το σκουριασμένο αλλά αποτελεσματικότατο εργαλείο που μας δάνεισε ο Κύκκος Μισομικές. Πριν φύγει η χλωρίδα - από τα ενάμιση μέτρα απόσταση, δεν καταλάβαινες ότι δίπλα είχε τρύπα. \nKostas contra flora. We needed the use of a saw to reach the entrance of the Chaos sta Kioollia cave. Here, Kostas is sawing away with the rusted but very effective tool which Kykkos Misomikes lent us. Before the flora was removed, even from as close as five feet you could not tell that you were standing next to a hole.

Πριν καλά καλά δέσει το πλοίο που μας έφερε, ο Τάσος Αχλαδιώτης (φύλακας αρχαιοτήτων του νησιού) μας οδήγησε στο κάθετο σπήλαιο "Χάος στα Κιόλια" (-12μ) στο οποίο είχε χάσει 40 χρόνια πριν ένα κατσίκι. Το κατσίκι βρέθηκε την επόμενη μέρα όταν αρμάτωσε ο Κώστας και κατεβήκαμε στη σπηλιά για εξερεύνηση \nBefore the ship that brought us had had a good chance to tie off in the harbour, Tassos Achladiotis (museum curator of the island) led us to the vertical cave "Chaos sta Kiollia" (-12m) in which he had lost a goat over 40 years previously. The goat was found the next day when Kostas rigged the cave and we entered it to explore.

Μέσα σε όλη τη βοήθεια που μας προσέφερε ο Δήμος ήταν και η παραχώρηση του 4X4 για κάποιες από τις μετακινήσεις που αλλιώς θα ήταν μάλλον δύσκολες. \nIn all the assistance provided by the Municipality, the provision of a 4X4 truck proved a great help for some movements which would otherwise have been very difficult. \n
